Eligibility

In 2013 Wales introduced a shingles vaccine for older people. This offers free shingles vaccine for those aged 70 years to protect against herpes zoster as part of a national immunisation programme. There is also a catch up for those age 77, 78 and 79 years of age.

From 1 April 2017, anyone aged 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 77, 78, or 79 on 1 September 2017 is offered the free vaccine up until the day before their 80th birthday. In a few years time, all those aged 70-79 will be offered the free vaccination.
