Blue Badge Scheme

The blue badge scheme provides a national range of parking concessions to help those who have a permanent and substantial disability to travel independently as either a driver or passenger, by allowing them to park close to their destination.

Apply on line at https://www.gov.uk/apply-blue-badge.  Answer questions about your disability, check your eligibility and fill in an application form to apply for or renew a Blue Badge.  Your application will then be sent to Caerphilly County Borough Council for a decision.

To apply in person call 01443 866571 to make an appointment with a Customer Services Advisor at any of the local Customer Service Centres.

Once we have received your application please await a response from us and do not post any personal information as we cannot accept liability for items that may be lost or damaged.

Once we have received your request and a decision has been made regarding your application you will need to visit a Customer Service Centre with the following:

  • A recent passport sized photograph.
  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of address.
  • Proof of eligibility.

There is no charge for the blue badge for persons permanently resident in Wales.

Concessionary Fares (Bus Passes)

The Concessionary Travel Scheme is provided by Caerphilly County Borough Council with money from the Welsh Government.  You need to meet one of these criteria:

    • are aged 60 or over.
    • are disabled – conditions apply.
    • are injured service personnel or injured service veterans and receive an award under tariffs 1-8 of the War Veterans Compensation Scheme or the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

The pass can be used at any time of day.  A disabled person may request one companion pass for when they require assistance to travel.

To apply follow these steps:

    • Fill in your details and attach a colour passport approved photograph.
    • Return it to any local Post Office within Caerphilly county borough along with proof of age and proof of address.

The Post Office assistant will check your details, stamp the form and post it for you.  The pass will be sent to your home address within three weeks.

Your bus pass also entitles you to 34% off local fares on the Arriva Trains Wales Cardiff and Valleys network for travel any time on or after 9.30am Monday to Friday and any time Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

UK Senior Railcard

Aged 60 or over?  Save 1/3 on most Standard and First Class rail fares and start making some dramatic savings.  To buy online, you’ll need a valid UK driving licence or passport to prove that you’re eligible.  www.senior-railcard.co.uk.  The card costs £30 and is valid for one year.

Arriva Trains Wales Senior Railcard

If you are 60 or over, you are entitled to an Arriva Trains Wales Seniors’ Railcard which gives a 50 per cent discount on Anytime or Off Peak Day Return fares on the Valleys & Cardiff local routes network (except between Cardiff Central, Newport and Cheltenham inclusive (see map on PDF)).  The card costs £5 and is valid for one year.

Please note: You can now arrive in Cardiff anytime after 0929.

Disabled Persons Railcard

£20 for one year or £54 for three yearsThe Disabled Person’s Railcard saves 1/3 off standard and first class tickets and is available to disabled adults and children for rail travel.  It also allows one accompanying adult to travel at the same discount.

The Disabled Person’s Railcard cannot be purchased online or through telesales or stations, so complete the form available on the Disabled Person’s Railcard website and send to the address given in the Rail Travel Made Easy leaflet with proof of your entitlement.

An example is the Arriva Trains Wales Senior Railcard which was not renewed on or after 1st January 2015 but was reinstated on 19th January 2015.  There was no public notice of either of these events.
